Can you wear lash extensions with glasses?

Yes. But only if one number beats another number. Here is the whole thing, honestly.

Every pair of glasses leaves a gap between the back of the lens and the front of your eye. Opticians call it vertex distance, and on most frames it is about 12 to 14 millimeters, because that is the distance prescriptions are calibrated for. Your lashes live inside that gap. When they outgrow it, they brush the lens with every blink - which smudges the lens, bends the lash, and shortens how long an extension set survives.

The one rule

You clear the lens when your frame clearance is bigger than your lash reach plus about 2 mm of blink room. Lash reach is not the same as lash length: a lash curls upward, so only part of its length points forward. A 12 mm lash with a strong D curl reaches roughly 6 mm forward. The same 12 mm with a nearly straight J curl reaches almost 11 mm - and hits most lenses.

Rule of thumb from lash artists: glasses wearers do best with lash lengths around 8 to 11 mm, sized a millimeter or two shorter than the gap behind their lenses. Curl is your friend - a curlier lash of the same length buys you millimeters of clearance for free.

What actually works

Three moves solve almost every case. First, go curlier, not shorter. Moving from a J or B curl to a C or D curl keeps the drama and folds the length upward instead of into your lens. Second, fix the frame. Frames with adjustable metal nose pads can be pushed a few millimeters further from your face; frames with tall lenses and a touch of pantoscopic tilt give the upswept lash somewhere to go. Third, mind the prescription. Strong prescriptions in cheap lens material bulge inward and quietly steal clearance - high-index lenses stay thin and give it back.

What does not work

Sliding your glasses down your nose changes your vision (vertex distance is part of your prescription's math, especially past +/- 4.00) and looks like a librarian in a sitcom. Trimming an extension set ruins the tapered tips your artist built. And powering through the smudge means cleaning your lenses hourly while your retention drops - the lash loses that fight every time.
